Prayer

We seem to be in heated debates on national health care, protections afforded us by the bill of rights and prayer. According to studies 75% of folks pray often - a good thing. We can spread this even more by teaching our children to offer prayers during recess and lunch at school. In fact it students may sit together and offer prayers during lunch. what a great way to give thanks and blessing to others.

  1. There's not a single thing preventing individuals or groups of any people (students or adults) voluntarily and privately offering prayers (as long as it does not disrupt classes or scheduled events). The "problem", initiated by Madelyn O'Hare (who was subsequently reported to have been murdered by one of her own), was for those who don't believe in any Supreme Being. She felt they should not be required to offer or participate in any prayer in a public school which is paid for via taxpayer money. That, her case argued, was a violation of the "Freedom of Religion" clause under the Bill of Rights since it impacted those who had no religion and did not believe in religion. And she won her case. From that point forward there has been no public, ordained prayer in public schools. But there is no law prohibiting voluntary "private" prayer by individuals. In fact, many schools have groups of students who gather each morning before school for "prayer circles." Brings to mind the church song, "We gather together to ask the Lord's Blessings..."
