National Politics at School

Enough is enough, now the BOSS wants to talk politics with all kids across America on values and morales. I am sure health care will creep into the talk some how. These are matters that should remain with the family. I am joining the group the says no and keep your kid home on Tuesday.

  1. What about having everyone listen to whatever the President has to say, and then having families discuss (I said DISCUSS, not rant and rave) about what he said. And then, in a respectful tone, let each person at the table explain what he or she thinks about what was said. Such occasions can be very good examples to both children and adults of conversation, thinking, logical reasoning - even when people have different opinions. And it needs to be done with mutual respect for each person's thoughts and opinions.

We need to encourage our children to think, reason and feel free to ask questions, especially when they might have a difference of opinion with the older people in their family. If all the children learn is "Lock step" politics, this state will never get out of the trouble it is in - never mind the country that got into the troubles this President inherited.

More important, no one - neither children nor adults will be able to develop informed opinions if they don't listen to all opinions, feel free to ask questions (which is what education really is),and then learn to think for themselves. Otherwise, why send any of our children to school at all. Just keep them at home and let them learn nothing but what they hear around the house. Does this make for a wiser and more competitive nation in the world? Is that how we will survive the next crisis?
